![]() ![]() At times, if felt/sounded like we were on a mountain top at sea level. Breezy and wavy! Nice dock, fishing and bird watching. We felt lucky to have enjoyed the place mid-week. Pay attention to the "guests instructions" on the kitchen counter with tips for respecting the fragile environment and neighbors. Mother nature is in charge on this point of land. Just one away from the little beach (which made it easy to launch paddle boards at low tide.) It is truly amazing the dedication these owners and neighbors have to their village. We had stayed in this neighborhood last year, so we knew what to expect at this quiet rural community by the sea. At check-in they did offer us very nice incentives to attend a 1 hr presentation, but we declined. Since I booked through VRBO we were not required to attend the time-share presentation. It was huge! We did not have daily housekeeping, but the front desk texted several times to see if we needed any additional supplies throughout our stay. The activities center also has organized activities each day. Some of the ones I recall are Super Mario Bros, ET, Spider-Man, Ghostbusters, and The Little Mermaid. It ran at least 3 movies per day while we were there. Another amenity we never had time for was the cinema. We were too tired to go back out for dinner on our last night, so we ate at the resort's restaurant which was also good. We never made it to the outdoor, heated pool, but it was beautiful. All equipment was provided free of charge by the activities center, and I even saw board games that guests could check out. We made use of the tennis courts, putt-putt course, and arcade often. ![]() Every single person we interacted with was so nice. We did not expect to be able to get into our room for several hours, but our room was ready, so they checked us in immediately. We arrived really early due to an approaching tropical storm, and the entire check-in staff was so friendly and welcoming. My suggestion – take a nice day and visit both Endview Plantation and Lee Hall Mansion which is right down the road. Our boys, ages 6 and 13, declared this to be the best hotel ever.on a daily basis! My husband and I loved it, too. Newport News, Virginia acquired the house and land in 1995.īesides the house which visitors can take a tour of and a small museum located on the first floor, the land offers viewing of the Curtis family cemetery that is kind of spooky, a natural spring that attracted not only military personal but Indians, and cabins in the far woods where soldiers stayed during the harsh winter months. The Curtis family returned after the end and the house remained in the family’s possession until 1985. The house and plantation was used as a Confederate hospital up until the end of the Civil War in 1864. The Curtis family moved to Danville soon after. Due to strong Union presence they had to retreat in May 1862. ![]() Doctor Curtis put his practice on hold to create a volunteer group called the Warwick Beauregard’s to help the Confederate Army. Not too long after they got comfortable, Abraham Lincoln called for volunteers to end the rebellion’s attempts, ultimately leading to Virginia seceding from the United States in April 1861. During the beginning of the Civil War it was placed outside of the direct family and given to Doctor Curtis and his wife who began his medical practice on the plantation in 1856. Throughout its history, the house has been passed down through the generations of the Hardwood family. Built in 1769, the house standing tall on Endview Plantation has seen more than 240 years of American history pass it by, as well as one Civil War right on top of it. ![]()
